Daniel is an Intellectual Property lawyer and a trademark agent. He has a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from the University of Toronto Law School and is a member of the Ontario Bar. His legal experience includes working on Bay St. in Toronto for several years as a lawyer and trademark agent for one of Canada's largest national firms. Prior to attending law school, Daniel worked for many years as a process development engineer with a large Canadian pharmaceutical company. In addition, his past experience encompasses environmental applications, systems engineering, as well as legal research pertaining to health law, renewable energy, and biotechnology issues. Daniel has an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering and a Master of Applied Sciences from the University of Ottawa.
His general practice includes advice on the commercialization of various types of IP assets, as well as a full complement of activities in support of commercial transactions (opinions, risk management, due diligence, IP portfolio analysis and evaluation, recordal and releases of security interests, etc.), drafting and review of promotional and marketing materials (including Direct To Consumer campaigns), risk analysis, transfer and licensing agreements, co-existence, security and non-disclosure agreements, etc. His experience also includes general corporate-commercial work (analysis, drafting and review of contracts, agreements, IP/IT assignments and licenses, bankruptcy and insolvency issues), civil litigation (Ontario and Federal Courts), negotiations, opinion work, searches and advice on licensing, labelling, advertising, sponsorship, promotional and distribution practices, publishing and copyright issues, privacy, consumer protection, internet, social media platforms, confidentiality and trade-secrets, branding strategies, internet domain name resolution, patents and trade-marks. In his litigation practice, Daniel acted for plaintiffs and defendants in trademark infringement and passing off actions, as well as in patent and copyright infringement claims. He represented clients before the Federal Court of Canada, Ontario Superior Court, Small Claims Court and the Trade-marks Opposition Board. He also represented clients in Internet domain name dispute proceedings under UDRP and CDRP. Daniel lives with his wife and daughter in beautiful Oakville, Ontario. He is a member of the Access to Professionals Program at the Halton Region's Small Business Centre, Halton's Regional Innovation Centre, HalTech, Silicon Halton, Angel One Network, Golden Horseshoe Manufacturing Network and contributes to the success of many local entrepreneurs.
